Direct Cremation

Cremation is appealing to many people for various reasons. Direct Cremation is an option for those that want a simple (without service), dignified and affordable means of final disposition.  We utilize only Mount Auburn Cemetery and their dedicated crematory facility for the cremation of your loved one.

Included in our direct cremation package:

• Initial transfer from the place of death by a Licensed Funeral Director
• Private viewing for the immediate family at our funeral home if so desired (5 people maximum)
• After proper identification, your loved one will be placed in an alternative container (a casket is not needed for direct-cremation) as required by the crematory.
• A 48 hour holding period will take place as required by Massachusetts State Law.
• The arrangement conference where we will obtain all of the required vital information to secure information for the legal permits and authorizations that have to be filed.
• After the 48 hour holding period has elapsed, your loved one will be transported to Mount Auburn Cemetery for cremation.  We only transfer one individual at a time, maintaining a high level of dignity for your loved one.
• Family may be present to witness the start of the cremation process at Mount Auburn Cemetery if so desired
• After proper notification, usually a day after cremation, the cremains will be returned to you by our staff in a minimum container provided by the cemetery.  Reasonably priced urns are available for purchase in our selection room. 
• If you choose to, we can put a personalized obituary on our website and/or in a newspaper of your choosing with photo, biographical information and memorial donation information.
